Katherine Xue
Katherine is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Petrov and Relman labs (2019-now). She studies the ecological dynamics of colonization in the human gut microbiome. During her PhD work with Jesse Bloom and Josh Akey at the University of Washington, she studied the evolutionary dynamics of influenza. She showed that viruses can cooperate with one another in cell culture and that influenza can evolve within patient infections in ways that mirror global evolutionary dynamics. She has won many awards in her graduate career including the Crow Award at PEQG, the Weintraub award, and Hertz Fellowship, and others.
