Carly Weiss

Carly is a Scientist at the Guardant Health. As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Petrov Lab (2019-2021) Carly was interested in applying the power of computational biology to evolutionary questions. In collaboration with Ahituv lab and a postdoctoral fellow in the lab, David Gokhman, published a paper that used MPRA arrays to provide the first map of the cis-regulatory evolution between modern and archaic humans.

Prior to joining the lab, Carly worked on a variety of systems in microbiology, genomics and evolutionary biology. During her PhD at UC Berkeleyin Rachel Brem's lab she developed a new method to map interspecific trait variation in yeast, where she applied reciprocal hemizygosity analysis to uncover basic housekeeping genes underlying thermotolerance differences between wild yeast species published in Nature Genetics.
